Born in Berkeley, Katherine Williams Edwards is a 4th-generation Californian. Katherine?s father insisted that children learn more when they invent their own toys and, thus inspired, built a desk and bought paper and pencils and paints for his three young inventors. Katherine sat side by side with her sister Margaret and brother Gael and created works of art to fill to bursting the museum conjured up by a child?s fancy.

As a little girl, Katherine spent her summers in Inverness, during the creation of the Point Reyes National Seashore. She loved to hike, sketchbook in hand, and spent her hours drawing the beautiful landscapes and birds of Point Reyes. Though grown up, she has never lost her love for what she considers to be the most beautiful place in the world.

Katherine's love for drawing and painting never faded, and, inspired to collect beautiful images that she could paint from, Katherine began to photograph the California Wetlands and its wild inhabitants. Her husband Tim joined her, and their camera-laden excursions became a passion, the images no longer merely subjects for painting but rather complete artwork in and of themselves. Katherine and Tim began showing and selling their photographs at the annual art fair in their hometown of San Anselmo.

Five years ago, Katherine returned to that most beautiful place in the world: she and Tim moved to Inverness, California. Tim and Katherine continue to photograph the wetlands and California Coast; last year they opened Pelican Studio in San Anselmo, where they teach classes and create and sell their own artwork as well as the works of other local artists.
